MERAV BEN-DAVID FOR ALBANY COUNTY COMMISSIONER 

Merav has been serving on the Albany County Planning and Zoning Commission for the past 3 years. In that capacity she has participated in writing regulations to protect the Casper Aquifer, helped update zoning and conditional use regulations, and contributed to discussions on the Laramie Area Growth Plan. She developed the county new (wildlife friendly) fencing regulations. She also served as the treasurer of Albany County Democratic Party for 4 years and was the driving force behind the Public Lands billboard campaign along I-80.  

Before retiring from the University of Wyoming in December 2025, Merav taught and led the Wildlife Ecology and Management Program for 25 years, was the Director of the Program in Ecology and Evolution and served as the chair of the Department of Zoology and Physiology. She was the Democratic nominee for the Wyoming US Senate seat in 2020, and for House District 46 in 2022. She is currently leading the effort to construct a new and improved dog park in Laramie and is the treasurer of the Wyoming Coalition of Animal Protection (wycap.org).

As an outdoors enthusiast Merav likes to ski-jor with her 2 huskies in winter and hike, bike, and paddle board in the summer. Her hobby is growing conifers from seeds, and she successfully transplanted various trees from the University of Wyoming campus.

Edward "Kurt" Britzius is running for County Attorney

The mission of the Albany County and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is to provide quality legal representation to the County and its officials and to seek justice in prosecuting criminal offenses to protect the citizens of Albany County and preserve the rights of victims.

Aaron Appelhans is running for Albany County Sheriff

Being a sworn peace officer since 2010, I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience and training in almost every phase and level of police work. Having worked my way through the ranks as a School Resource Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, and now Sheriff, I have the experience needed to continue and serve my community.

Policy:

Reducing Traffic Fatalities

Use data-driven traffic safety measures to address speeding and impaired driving caused by alcohol or drugs.

Mental Health Crisis Response

Train deputies to respond confidently to mental health crises and partner with community professionals to connect people with appropriate care. Expand support for inmates transitioning back into the community to reduce repeat offenses.

Alternatives to Jail

Jail is not a hospital or treatment center. Expand alternatives to incarceration for people facing mental health, substance abuse, or other challenges. Reserve jail for those who truly need it.

Increasing Transparency

Keep the Sheriff’s Office open, accountable, and accessible to the community.

Diversity and Inclusion

Recruit and retain staff from diverse backgrounds to strengthen the agency and improve its response to the entire community.

De-escalation

Expand ongoing de-escalation training, using grants and community partnerships to work toward training every deputy.

Supporting Rural Residents

Address the unique needs of rural residents and small towns, including land and range management, property disputes, unauthorized access, and disaster response. Continue working with residents and volunteer firefighters to ensure help is available when needed.
