Albany County Democratic Party Central Committee

What does the Central Committee do?

The Albany County Democratic Party Central Committee coordinates the work of local party members in advancing democratic values and electing Democrats.

The committee consists of Precinct Captains (officially called Precinct Committeemen and Committeewomen) elected at the regular biennial primary election.

New Precinct Captains may also be elected by the Central Committee in order to fill vacancies.

Individuals interested in serving as a Precinct Captain must meet the following requirements: 1) registered to vote as a Democrat and 2) reside within the precinct .

Filling vacancies

Here's how we fill vacancies:

  1. An updated listing of Central Committee vacancies is available on the website (see below).
  2. If you are interested in running for a vacant seat, please email albanycounty@wyodems.org at least three weeks in advance of the next regular monthly meeting. Monthly meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month.
  3. Once you have declared your interest, we will confirm with you whether an election for the vacancy will be added to the agenda for the next month’s meeting.
  4. We will post your intent to run for the vacancy and invite others interested in running to declare their intent at least one week in advance of the meeting during which the election will be held.
  5. You must introduce yourself to the Central Committee via email at least one week in advance of the election (we will provide you with the email list to do so).
  6. During the meeting, you may provide a 2-minute introduction.
  7. The Central Committee may deliberate (possibly in Executive Session), and then will vote whether to fill the vacancy; and if so, will vote to fill the vacancy.
  8. Following the regular biennial primary elections during which Precinct Captains are elected for the next two year terms, any individuals who have been elected will have the opportunity to serve out the remainder of the current term (i.e., September through December, prior to the new term starting in January) in the case of a vacancy.
